Education Makes All the Difference in a Perfect Smile

According to a recent study, nearly all Americans (99.7%) feel that a smile is an important social asset. It stands to reason then that choosing the right dental hygienist is important to maintain upkeep. Dr Schultz, of the Academy of General Dentistry, claims that more research should be put into searching for high quality dentists, especially when procedures past the standard clean up are being explored. Anything from veneers, teeth whitening and Invisalign require dentists with excellent cosmetic abilities, meaning that choosing poorly could result in serious mishaps down the road.

Get White Teeth, Just Like Your Favorite Stars!

Some of the brightest smiles are found in Hollywood, and here at our Midtown Manhattan dental office, we recognize the popularity of teeth whitening procedures. Whiter teeth can be achieved through only a few simple treatments, and our team of dental professionals are happy to offer their patients some of the best whitening techniques available.

Want Healthy Teeth? Go Check Out Your Kitchen Sink

Water. Is there anythTap watering more refreshing in the entire world? Like most scientists, we our fascinated by water, and believe it can go a long way towards maintaining a healthy physique. But did you know that water, in addition to its other good qualities, can also improve the health of your teeth? Flouride is a chemical that protects the enamel of your teeth. Toothpaste comes with flouride, and qualified licensed dentists provide their patients with a layer of flouride every time they make a regular 6-month dental check up. What you might not know, is that water has flouride in it too, and just drinking tap water can wash your teeth in flouride that can go that extra mile to make them healthier.

Another interesting thing about water and flouride is that while natural tap water comes with the material, bottled water does not. The dentists in our midtown Manhattan dental office recommend that our patients make sure to drink tap water in addition to bottled water, to make sure they get that extra flouride. We have a little saying in our office: if you take care of your teeth at home, we'll perfect them in our office here. And while we specialize in making sure that your teeth are white and perfectly straight, you can, just by drinking water and brushing your teeth, make our job much easier.

Things Teenagers Do To Wear Down Their Teeth

While our last post talked A teenager smilingabout how even young children are susceptible to cavities, there is still a large chunk of time between those early years and the adult years that are (hopefully!) filled with healthy brushing and dental habits. We’re talking about teenagers, and there are many things teenagers do that can lead to periodontal troubles down the line. In our midtown Manhattan dental office, we’re always pleased when our patients are young men and women who are serious about dental health. But here are some tips on things for those young people to avoid when they’re in school or in home.

Chewing ice is a habit many teenagers have, but chewing ice can lead to microfractures in your teeth that create an entryway for bacteria. Too much bleaching can wear down teeth, as can drinking too many sugary sports drinks that have acids in them that can further wear down enamel. Chewing tobacco is another habit common in teens, but it contains grit and sand that wears down teeth, as well as chemicals that can cause serious oral problems and even oral cancer.

Teenage years can be tough, but they can also be great fun. Our qualified licensed dentists want to make those years as easy as possible by protecting all our patients from dangerous lifestyle choices. And teens that avoid these common things can look forward to a healthy mouth for years to come.

Celebrate Dental Awareness Month by Learning About Dental Health

Everybody knows tA dentisthat February is black history month, but did you know that it is also dental awareness month?

Okay, probably not, unless you're a dentist. But in our midtown Manhattan dental office we look forward to February all year long for that reason. After all, what's better than a month dedicated to educating people about the thing you're most passionate about? Come February, we're positively singing with enthusiasm about teeth, and how cool and special they are. We hope our patients put up with us!

But another thing we like to do this time of year is remind you how important it is to keep your teeth cleaned. Not only do regular dental check ups keep your teeth nice and clean, and your smile fabulous, but they also can protect you from dangerous gum disease and certain kinds of cancers. At our office, we offer a variety of cosmetic improvements including teeth whiteners, Invisalign, and dental implants. All of these are designed to beautify the look and feel of your chompers. We also offer the most up-to-date technology to keep your mouth as healthy as it looks.

In honor of dental awareness month, we ask you to take a look at your smile in the mirror, and look at those shiny white teeth for what they really are: a part of your body, and one of the most beautiful parts, if you ask us.

Bringing Your Small Children to the Dentist Can Protect Their Teeth

We hope that these blog posts are making you see how important it is to go see a qualified licensed dentist every six months for a check up. Between the teeth whitening, teeth veneers, and other tools of cosmetic dentistry that can lead to aesthetic perfection, and the dentist's ability to protect you from dangerous oral illnesses, there's every reason to find a dentist in your area, and develop a personal relationship with him or her. One thing that sometimes gets forgotten however is how important it is to get in the habit of visiting the dentist at an early age. Dental experts recommend that children visit the dentist by the time of their first birthday.

This may seem like overkill to some, but the reality is that many orthodontic problems can be solved while small children are still developing their teeth. Dentists say that dental abscess, tooth decay, bad breath, tooth loss and toothache have a better chance of being avoied if children begin scheduling regluar check ups early. In our midtown Manhattan dental office, we're pleased whenever we see our patients come through our office with their children in tow. It helps us to get to know our patients better, and it also creates lasting relationships with those children, that in turn create better dental health for them.

Good Dental Care Begins at Home

We hope all our patients know that every time they walk into our midtown Manhattan dental office, they're about to receive the highest quality of dental care. We pride ourselves on the highly qualified dentists that work in our office. But it's just as important for our patients to know about the things they can do to take care of their teeth at home, so that when they come in to see us their teeth are in top condition. The healthier a patient's teeth are at the start, the shorter and more painless the check up will be.

There are a few easy things that patients should keep in their minds on a daily basis. Remember to brush your teeth for the full two or three minutes that dentists recommend. Studies show that most people only spend about thirty seconds brushing. But poor brushing habits can lead to cavities, and gum disease. Another easy tip is to avoid bleaching your teeth more than once every six months. Some people bleach their teeth far more often, in an attempt to make them as white as possible. While we certainly understand the desire for white teeth, too much bleaching can dilute the natural enamel of your teeth.

Finally, it is important for our patients to keep in mind that it is incredibly easy to spread cavity-causing bacteria to infants. babies' mouths are so sensitive to these germs, that even sharing silverware can cause them to spread. New parents should take special care not to spread germs if they have problems with their teeth.

Maintaining healthy teeth is pretty easy. Just follow the advice of your dentist, who always has your well-being in mind. If patients follow these simple steps, and remember to come in for dental check ups every six months, their teeth will be much healthier than they would be otherwise.

Six Simple Ways to Perfect Your Teeth

We got into the medical practice to save lives. Finding and curing disorders like sleep apnea and TMJ, and rooting out dangerous oral cancers in our patients is our top priority. But we also appreciate how good it feels to flash a perfectly white smile. Maybe that's why we became dentists and not doctors. The cosmetic dentists in our midtown Manhattan dental office can do a lot to touch up the blemishes nature gives our teeth. We've written about Invisalign and teeth-whitening before, but there are four other simple procedures we want to highlight now.

Dental bonding is a simple way to cover up gaps or to fix discolored teeth. A dentist applies a special material that fills in the black spot, or goes over the discoloration. Teeth contouring is another procedure, used to reshape teeth. Here the dentist uses tools to move the teeth in his or her patient's mouth. Cosmetic dental fillings are great for people who already have amalgam fillings in their teeth. A new, state-of-the-art material can replace the old fillings, and completely change the structure of a patient's teeth. Finally, dentists can offer dental veneers to their patients. Veneers are for people with damaged tooth enamel. A dentist attaches porcelain veneers onto the damaged area, creating a white smile.

Almost everyone will require at least one of these procedures sometime during their life, and we hope everyone, or at least everyone in New York City, can count on us for their cosmetic care. As far as we're concerned, that should be the goal of every good doctor.

Whiter Teeth Are as Easy as Zoom!

White teeth are possible with a simple procedureWe have friends who tell us that when they watch the news, they’re practically blinded by how white the anchors’ teeth always are. They ask us how anyone can possibly have teeth that white. But the answer is simple, we always tell them. In fact, it takes less than an hour. Here at our midtown Manhattan dental office we use Zoom! teeth whitening technology to help our patients whiten and polish their teeth. With Zoom! technology, we can make teeth up to eight shades whiter, giving our patients that extra bit of charm when they flash their smiles.

We begin the simple whitening procedure by covering the patient’s gums and lips, and applying a hydrogen peroxide-based bleaching agent to the patient’s teeth. We then shine a UV light on the teeth that activates the solution, and leave it on for fifteen minutes. We repeat this procedure two more times, and then voila! white teeth that can stand against anyone on TV.

Our qualified dentists know that whiter teeth can improve the confidence and overall well being of their patients. We’re pleased to be able to provide a service that makes whiter teeth possible. And we’re even more pleased that all it takes is three quick visits to our office.
