Bonding
Feeling uncomfortable about one of your teeth because it looks cracked or does not match the shade of its neighbors? Don't fret; come into Dr. Stange's office instead. He will bond it back to normal and you will leave his Manhattan office with a smile that you can't wait to show off.
Dental bonding is used to restore or improve a person’s smile. It is a dental procedure where a tooth-colored resin is applied to your teeth by our New York City dentist. Bonding repairs decayed, chipped or cracked teeth, improves the appearance of discolored teeth, closes spaces between teeth, or lengthens and changes the shape of a tooth. Bonding can also be used to protect a tooth’s root if it has been exposed by receding gums.
Anesthesia is not usually used when bonding is involved unless bonding is needed to fill a cavity. Our cosmetic dentist will use a shade guide to match the resin color as closely to the color of your teeth as possible.
In order for the bonding material to hold to your teeth, the Manhattan dentist will roughen the surface of your teeth and apply a conditioning liquid. The resin will then be applied, molded, and smoothed into the desired shape on your tooth. An ultraviolet light will be used to harden the resin. After the material hardens, the dentist will shape the tooth once again and polish it to match the rest of your teeth. Dental bonding is one of the easiest and cheapest procedures performed by dental practices and is an excellent alternative to amalgam fillings and porcelain veneers in some cases.
If you are interested in more information about this procedure, feel free to make an appointment to meet with our dentist.
